New Release of craftreat stencils to make three different cards in three different styles. Stencils are the most resourceful craft supplies that you can own because they are so versatile. Be it cards, mixed media, journals, DIYs, stencils are a must-have in your supplies stash.

CARD 1: WITH CRAFTREAT STENCIL: CTS072 Heart Checks

The simplest and the most widely used card-making technique with the help of stencils of distress inks. Distress inks are water-based inks and they “blend” well on papers, especially bielo cardstock. You need to invest in a good set of blending foam and wash it thoroughly in warm water before its first use. Place the blending foam on your holder and dab it into the color of your choice. Make a circling motion with it over a clear plastic before your start on your cardstock else you will end up with a heavy ink spot where you start. These is the basic steps you need to follow and you can improvise on this. Of the three stencils I received, I liked these heart ones the best and this had a more symmetrical design which gives you more freedom to layer. Instead of creating a plain uniform background, I created certain areas of stencil patterns first in a darker shade — “festive berries “. I next realigned the stencils and used a lighter shade (scattered straw) to create a depth around the same areas where I had used the stencil before.

I placed a few interesting elements like the bubble sentiments, little birdie, etc to bring in a fun scene together.

CARD 2: WITH CRAFTTREAT STENCIL: CTS074 Striped Herringbone

For the second card, I tried my hands on mixed media. I am a person with a very neat and minimalist style so when I mean mixed media, it's nowhere near it! Anyways I used a palette knife to dab modeling paste onto a card base with this arrows stencil. Texture paste actually works great but I didn’t have one so settled with modeling paste instead. Be sure to use a longer palette knife so that you can give even coats of the paste. Once the paste was dry, I wet the entire surface with little water first and then started blending watercolor in two shades.

Once this was dry, I stacked the “Hello” die-cut in white and placed it along with the mixed media panel onto a matching green card base. kept it simple yet loved the texture.

CARD 3: WITH CRAFTTREAT STENCIL : CTS073 Memphis Triangle

The textured panel had a lot going on and I didn't think using the entire panel for one card was a great idea. I instead cut out this panel in half and adhered it to a back card base along with a small lining of gold washi tape. That way I had this black background which was having a majority of space in the card, and the texture panel taking all the attention. This would have looked great on its own but I felt like I needed something to connect the textured panel and base card so I heat embossed this Persian motif flower with gold embossing powder outline, and then heat embossed all over with clear embossing powder, fussy cut and placed it such that it was covering both the spaces.

also was heat embossed with gold, just to keep up with the main theme of black and gold. I hope you enjoyed the cards. I am sure there are many other ways to be creative with these stencils and I cant wait to see what you guys are going to come up with :) Happy crafting!
